I liked this book, but I hated that cliffhanger ending. I'm so upset about it. Persia was sent to Cornwall to see if she could form an attachment to her stepmother's nephew Damon Penwyth. Damon was supposed to meet Persia and escort her to his home, but his cousin Roger Penwyth arrives in his place. Things are not what they seem to be with the Penwyth family. Damon only wants Persia for her money, to cover his gambling debts and is sleeping with a house servant. Roger has a spotty relationship with his extended family members, he has a hot/cold demeanor with Persia, and that's not all.
Started out really interesting; finished as not realistic. Was a good storyline but I'm not into witches and spells. Ugh!!!
Ani writes great stories. Her Maid Marian stories are my favorites. I really hoped that I would like this one but the plot is so old it has whiskers. In this hairy oldie a young girl is betrothed to one of two brothers and of course she falls for the other brother. Ani doesn't keep you in suspense as the fiancee is revealed to be a cad. The writing is strong but the plot is weak. Sadly if Ani had written a true love triangle with both men being hard to choose between she would've created a much stronger story. In spite of the cliffhanger the ending is clear.
